The establishment of MDG41 was prompted by an increasing trend of minesite incidents and injuries involving high pressure hydraulic system failure. Of particular concerns was the number of high pressure fluid injection injuries sustained.

The objective of MDG41 is to minimise risks to the health and safety of people where fluid power systems are being used in the minerals industry.
